Crystal Atlantique Colloquium

One aspect of CRYSTAL Atlantique is an annual review of the various projects underway. The Program Review Committee, responsible for conducting the review, is holding a colloquium to provide researchers with an opportunity to share their work and findings over the past year.

We are pleased to announce the third annual CRYSTAL Atlantique Colloquium will be held May 20th and 21st at the University of New Brunswick.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Steven Turner
"Why We Teach School Science, and Why Knowing Why Matters"

Does school science serve the needs of all students or primarily a select few? Does it excite students about science and the careers science can lead to, or does it frustrate and discourage them? Are measures of science achievement masking broad scale disengagement from science? Data from international surveys like TIMSS, PISA, and ROSE, as well as new findings about the public understanding of science, suggest it is time for educators and political leaders in the Atlantic Region to re-examine the purpose and program of school science. And they point to several promising directions for improvement.
