Robert Hawkes

Robert Hawkes is a physicist and science educator from Mount Allison University. In science education his particular interests are early research experiences for students, reflective practices, collaborative learning, and technology enhanced learning. He has won numerous teaching awards, including the Canadian Association of Physicists Medal for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences (APiCS) Science Teacher Award, and the 3M-Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) national teaching fellowship. His science research is in solar system astrophysics, and has taken him to observing campaigns around the world including such exotic locations as the Gobi Desert in Mongolia and the Negev Desert in Israel. He has published more than 50 scientific papers, as well as proceedings and chapters. He was the first winner of the APiCS science communication award for the Atlantic scientist who best conveys scientific research to he general public. He has shared his passion for science in presentations to children of all ages, teachers, university faculty, scientists and the general public.
